Carbon Balls

Species Description

Common Name: Carbon Balls

 Found on dead and decaying wood. This fungus has a hard ball shaped fruiting body from 1 to 4 centimeters in diameter. When cut in half you can see concentric layers which represent each season of reproduction. The color ranges from black, dark brown to purple tones. A lot more ball like and less lumpy when compared to Kretzschmaria deusta.
