Description

Common Name: Oak-and-beech Bolete

 Also known as: Xercomus  Cap cracks extensively when mature. Another small bolete (2” max). Hard to distinguish from campestris (Field Bolete). The main distinction is that fraternus’ cap cracks even more. Pores are very deep. Stem often long, spotted with orange-red. Stem stains brown when handled. Stem flesh stains blue/green on upper parts & orange at the bottom. Pores stain blue/green. Flesh is bright yellow and slowly stains blue.
