Description

Description

Cap brown, sometimes tinged toward red or yellow, often with yellow spots (var. maculosus). Pores are white, aging to yellowish tan. Nothing blues. Stem white & tan, sometimes brown or with hints of pink or purple. There are three recognized variations in this complex. Affine var. affine has no netting except a tiny bit at the very top. Affine var. maculosus is called the “Spotted Bolete” because it has white/yellow spots all over the cap. Affine var. reticulatum has conspicuous brown netting on the stem. Yellow-brown spore print.
