Meet club identifier Richard Jacob for our annual Dorothy Fornof Walk at Deer Lakes Park. We normally find a lot of mushroom species at this walk as Amanitas and Boletes start to show along with a lot of other mycorrhizae species,
Turn on Mahaffey Rd which goes into the park. Take the first right into the parking lot between the first two small lakes. This is the meeting location. Note there is no sign up for this walk, just show up!
Hi! Do we need to register for this event?
No sign up and no limit to the number of people. Open to all.
My grandmother!! I remember Dorothy Mae Mason- Fornof. She was born and died on the same piece of property in Pennsylvania, outside of Pittsburgh. She knew the names of all the trees & flowers & birds in the area She lived in all her life. She was a bright soul who deserves to be celebrated!
Thank you for adding a note about your grandmother. Mrs Fornof was a founding member of WPMC and this was one of the places where she would look for mushrooms, plants and birds etc.
I went on botanical walks with her, her husband and a son Robert. Great folks.
Dorothy was excellent at identifying mushrooms and plants and a real down-to-earth person. I miss her.
