Meet John Plischke III at McGuffey Community Park for the Great Morel Quest.
We will be traveling by car to possibly multiple locations. Looking in each location for about 1 hour and moving on to new locations unless we hit the mother lode. Learn how John Plischke III finds new morel spots and join him on the Great morel quest. Difficulty of the walk is unknown. We will try to find better quality walking locations but we do not know what to expect. We are going to the heart of the Giant Morel sweet spot and looking for the Giant Morels under Elm trees which can produce massive quantities of morels.
Directions: From I-70W take exit 6 for PA 231 towards Claysville, turn right onto State Route 3024, turn right onto US-40E, Right onto 231 South, Turn Right onto Beham Ridge Road. This is just the meeting place for our quest.

Sometimes the address and location information for a meeting point is not 100% accurate. Some parks and meeting point do not have a street address so it is difficult to program the map to point to the exact location. We request that no one hunts a walk or foray location for at least two weeks prior to a walk or foray. It is only through your cooperation that we can have successful walks and forays. All walks & forays will be held rain or shine. Come 15-30 min early and socialize. All walks start on time, so be early, if you are late we will already be in the woods. If you are a club member and have already joined our Facebook Group you can find last minute additions or changes there.
I would like to attend this event! Is there any registration required or should I just show up? Thanks!
Just show up and don’t be late!
I was also interested in attending the walk, however, I am not yet a member of the organization. Is it acceptable to show up and pay the dues fee there?
You do not have to be a member to attend a walk but we do encourage you to join. Yes we accept membership applications at the walks. There are other ways to join here.
Hi, I’d be interested in coming tomorrow, but I don’t have a car. Is anyone coming from Pittsburgh, and would be able to carpool? I’d chip in for gas, of course. I live in Lawrenceville. Thanks in advance.
Hey Katya, I’m going to be driving from Pittsburgh and could totally pick you up. I live really closeby in Friendship. If you get this in time shoot me an email at nfedorek at gmail dot com. The more the merrier!
So we didn’t make it out this season… just wondering how you all did last weekend?
There is a report from the walk leader, John Plischke III, in the Yahoo groups site. I think everyone took some morels home after hitting the second spot even if they didn’t find any. We also found a mixture of morels on the walk at Twin Lakes, but not so many. There are some pictures from Saturday posted to our Facebook wall.
The general consensus is that the season is two weeks late and the big yellow morels were only just coming up. There are no organized walks this weekend and the weather will be cooler with showers but it should be worth taking a walk if you know a good spot.
