Sometimes the address and location information for a meeting point is not 100% accurate. Some parks and meeting point do not have a street address so it is difficult to program the map to point to the exact location. Click on the link for any additional driving directions and meeting point information to Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve.
We request that no one hunts a walk or foray location for at least two weeks prior to a walk or foray. It is only through your cooperation that we can have successful walks and forays. All walks & forays will be held rain or shine. Come 15-30 min early and socialize. All walks start on time, so be early, if you are late we will already be in the woods. If you are a club member and have already joined our Facebook Group you can find last minute additions or changes there.
Of the 2 bags of Spawn we received at the May Meeting, which is which of the big bag and the smaller bag?
I would like to do the King Oysters in a tray and the regular Oysters in vertical bags.
Thanks for clearing this up for me.
The smaller bag is the King Oyster, the larger common Oyster.
I didn’t get the oysters to fruit before the meeting, but they are fruiting today. These were kept in a 5 gallon bucket outside with a lid and some holes melted into for air.
Jim Wilson sent me this culture, it’s from a kit his son was taking cultures from to do yield studies with.

this second photo shows hopefully how blue the undeveloped mushroom is, they are very blue, that’s not just a reflection from the bag.

If you picked up a little log with the Schizophyllum commune plugs in it, you may not know what to do with it, I may have not mention to the group as a whole that it needs to be kept in a shady damp place. This will probably not take long to fruit, I put some of the grain that was on the dowels in with the sawdust from some of the drilled holes into a bag and it’s forming primordia on the sawdust already.
If you took a piece of Agrocybe arvalis sclerotia, keep it in a moist place, last year I recommended fruiting it in a 12 ounce plastic cup with a few holes poked in the side for air and one on the bottom for drainage. Link with how to, http://wpamushroomclub.org/wp/agrocybe-arvalis-sclerotia-fruiting-instructions/
At least three people fruited it this way.
Dave Fischer suggested potting soil. Which sounds good to me, the sclerotia friut in the debris from chips that mycelium grew in which is very similar to potting soil.
Cheers,
Jim
