As this is the 15th Annual Gary Lincoff Mushroom Forayย we have decided to push the boat out and make it a special event.
Friday, September 18thย :ย Walk led by Gary Lincoff in Cook Forest State Park, an 8500 acre old-growth forest in
Cooksburg, Clarion, PA.
Saturday, September 19thย : Walks, presentations, auction, book signing, sales, table-walk, mushroom feast. Parish
Hill, Allegheny County North Park, Walter Road, Allison Park, PA 15101.
Sunday, September 20thย :ย Science Sunday in North Park.ย Species identification (microscopes and reagents will be
available), along with a program devoted to DNA-based identification of fungi. Lunch included.
The event is very flexible and you can pick andย choose which days you wish to attend.

Program:
Meet at North Park Swimming pool parking lot at 7.45am. The bus will leave for Cook Forest State Parkย at 8am sharp! Morning walk with world renowned mycologistย Gary Lincoff. Return to the bus for a short drive to a local restaurant for lunch. ย Afternoon walk with a park ranger to visit the โForest Cathedralโ of towering white pines and hemlocks. Leave Cook Forest State Parkย at 4pm, returning to North park at 6pm. The bus is state of the art with contoured reclining seats and armrests, A/C,ย ย andย lavatory. ย Bus trip includes box or restaurant lunch. Alternatively meet us at Cook Forest State Parkย at approximately 10am,ย bring your own lunch and join in the activities. Bus seats are limited!

Guided morning walks and self-guided afternoon mushroom walks; Mushroom Walks will be conducted in North Park and in other woodlands nearby Lectures: guest speakers: Gary Lincoff, Michael Kuoย and other guests;ย Mushroom Feast; merchandise sales and silent auction.
Featured speaker is Gary Lincoff, author of the Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Mushrooms. Gary, Past-president of the North American Mycological Association (NAMA), is the nationโs best-known mushroom expert. He is a charismatic and entertaining speaker and makes learning about mushrooms fun and interesting. His end-of-the-day table-walk discussions are not to be missed.
This year we are delighted thatย Michael Kuoย , the principal developer of MushroomExpert.Com,ย will join us as a guest speaker and mycologist.
Western Pennsylvania Mushroom Club cooks will prepare a Mushroom Feast with dozens of unique mushroom dishes to delight your taste buds.
Tom Chulick, Executive Chef & owner of the Back Door Cafรฉย in Johnstown will do a cooking demonstration.

Gary Lincoff is the author or editor of numerous books and articles on mushrooms, including The Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Mushrooms. He teaches courses on mushroom identification at the New York Botanical Garden. A featured โmyco-visionaryโ in the award-winning documentary Know Your Mushrooms, Gary has led mushroom study trips and forays around the world.ย Gary Lincoff is again the Principal Mycologist at the Mid-Atlantic Mushroom Foray. Gary has recently published a book, The Complete Mushroom Hunter, An Illustrated Guide to Finding, Harvesting, and Enjoying Wild Mushrooms. Garyโs insights about edible and poisonous mushrooms, picking urban mushrooms, mushroom recipes, and his experiences with wild mushrooms in various cultures around the world make it a delightful read.Gary has his own website that includes much help for beginners, info on toxicity, and scientific articles on DNA classification of mushrooms. ย Gary is in high demand as a speaker for mushroom organizations all over North America and has traveled the world studying mushrooms and their relationships with the local culture. We are extremely fortunate to have him come to our foray for the Fifteenth time. |

Morning and afternoon sessions will consist of a lecture followed by two workshop periods.ย Lunch is included.
The lectures will be on “Advanced identification of mushrooms usingย microscopes and chemical reagents” and “DNA Barcoding”.
The following workshops will be offered:
- Chemical field tests as an aid to mushroom ID
- Introduction to microscopy – spore analysis
- Advanced ย microscopy
- DNA sample preparation
- Key use and generation
We will be working with samples collected from Friday’s and Saturday’s forays at Cook Forest State Park and North park.
