The bimonthly newsletter has just gone out and should be in your inbox by now or your postbox in a few days time. Chanterelles (Cantharellus cibarius) and Black Trumpets (Craterellus cornucopioides) are beginning to show in Western Pennsylvania.

I was wondering if I could get some info on what kind of mushrooms are around in the fall and any spots around Westmoreland County I could look. Thanks Email me at anytime.
Some of the edibles around at the moment are:
Honey mushrooms
Chicken of the woods
Hen of the woods
Aborted entoloma
and the last of the chanterelles.
There are a lot of other species fruiting right now as we transition from the summer to fall weather.
I saw various species of boletes, puffballs and amanitas on a quick walk today.
If you have not picked mushrooms before you need a guide as a minimum and even then I urge caution as there are a number of poisonous mushrooms around at this(all the) time of year.
As for locations Twin lakes park and Mingo Creek are popular spots.
