Walk leaders Jack and Valery Baker.
Big turn out for this chanterelle hunt. I counted 5 species of chanterelle but people were mainly picking smooth chanterelles, black trumpets and cinnabar-red chanterelles. Over 50 species of mushrooms identified and many more left on the table before we called it a day.
Having flicked through Gary Lincoff’s “Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Mushrooms” for quite a few years I always wonder how you find lots of these species. The answer is of course wait for a wet year and you will be stumbling across many colorful mushrooms like the Clavaria zollingeri and Cortinarius violaceus while picking bountiful chanterelles.
Species list entered by Richard Jacob. Identified by Jack Baker, Dick Dougall, Blaine Sanner, Scott Pavelle and Richard Jacob.

Great photos of the purple coral! I would recommend a different name other than “Clavulina amethystina” since that appears to be a European species. I would propose “Clavaria zollingeri” as the name instead. Thoughts?
I checked a few other sites and it does indeed seem that Clavulina amethystina is only found in Europe. Thanks for the correction. I have updated the species list and image annotations. A Mushroom Catalog page for Clavaria zollingeri will be created at a later date.
