The third event of the Lincoff foray this time at North Park. The beautiful weather continued and even though the ground had dried pout a bit around Pittsburgh there were still plenty of mushrooms including a number that new to the club. The number of guest mycologists at the event really helped us expand our list and also made processing the species on the identifications tables go a bit faster. Thank you to Adam Haritan for the new clade signs that we used inside for the display tables.
There were a number of the newly observed and identified species of note. I liked Dialonectria episphaeria which starts of as red pustules that was found growing on Diatrype stigma, the common tar crust. Unlike some of its relatives the Gliophorus irrigatus or Slimy Waxcap is not so brightly colored, just a shade of brown, but still an interesting find. A fiber cab Mallocybe unicolor was identified for the first time. It seems to come from a rarely found or identified genus but know that we know what it looks like we will hopefully be able to find it more frequently. Another species with textured cap is Cyptotrama asprata. It is small but a bright golden yellow color and grown on dead wood, both hardwood and conifers.
Species list entered by Richard Jacob. Species identified by club identifiers, mycologists and guest mycologists. There are still a few more species to add to the list as pictures are identified online and from microscopic analysis.
