Last November, WPMC members Cecily Franklin, John Plischke, Garrett Taylor, and Richard Jacob participated in a research project with doctors from Allegheny General Hospital. The result, titled “Emergency Mushroom Identification through Social Media: Comparison with Verified Expert Opinion”, was submitted to the American College of Medical Toxicology. I became more interested in mushrooms when I found morels growing in the backyard of my new house. After joining the club I have been sucked into the world of mycology. Since then I have combined my passions of science and mycology and started a DNA barcoding initiative.
