This is the species list for the walk that took place on the morning of Dye Day in North park. The group took a guided walk around the shelter looking for different mushroom species. A nice range were found encompassing gilled mushrooms, polpores, boletes, crusts and parchments and slime molds of various shapes and sizes although most were not in great abundance. Three species of Chanterelle were found with the Smooth chanterelle in significant numbers and looking to be in good condition which is great for this late in their season. There were quite a few bolete species including larger numbers of Boletus sensibilis (Curry Bolete) and a very large but past its prime Lanmaoa pallidorosea (Bouillon Bolete). One fun find was Myxarium nucleatum (Crystal Brain) partially hidden under some bark. And we puzzled over some interesting growths on an oak leaf that turned out to be the product of a gall wasp Neuroterus quercusbaccarum.
A review of the Dye Day will be in the newsletter to be published at a later date.
