Spring and summer 2001

Spring and summer 2001
North Park walk
April 14- 10:00-12:00, North Park, Allegheny County. We met Jack Baker and Roger Hummel at the Swimming Pool parking lot. About 35 people came to the walk on an absolutely beautiful spring day. We enjoyed a walk in the woods, unfortunately we didn’t find any of the much sought after spring morels. We did find unusual little orange cups on acorns. Some of the other fungi that were found were coprinus on dung, hairy fairy cups, dead man’s fingers and thin maze polypore.
Jennings Environmental Education Center
April 29 – 1:00-4:00, Jennings Environmental Ed. Center, Butler County. Meet John Plischke & John Plischke III. Forty-two people attended this slide program and walk. Unfortunately on this day the mushroom gods were not looking over this area and the mushrooms were very scarce.
Pine Ridge
May 5 – 1:00-6:00, Pine Ridge, Indiana County. Meet John Plischke and John Plischke III. Thirty-six people attended this walk. It was a beautiful day and a beautiful Pine Lodge overlooking a lake. The setting for the day was perfect. Unfortunately the week before was very dry and very hot, so the mushrooms were scarce.
