We had twelve people and only spent 1 hour in the woods, but we came out with an interesting haul. Notable is a rust on jewelweed new to even Club Mycologist John Plischke III and a large rare Xerula (rooted collybia) noted for its brown gill edges and brown staining.
We all got a late start due to a series of accidents which closed down I79 in both directions, so we reduced our time in the woods.
Club Mycologist La Monte Yarroll gave a half hour introduction to mushrooms with an emphasis on collecting for the table. The books he recommended are Start Mushrooming: The Easiest Way to Start Collecting 6 Edible Mushrooms , National Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Mushrooms, and Mushrooms of Northeast North America: Midwest to New England .
